About this product

230 V can kill. Get it signed off.

A mistake on the 230 V side can cause a fatal electric shock or a fire, and it often looks fine until something fails. Every 230 V installation must be inspected, tested and signed off by a qualified electrician before it is used. Book our inspection and sign-off service (at our Cumbria workshop, with test results and a certificate).

A small metal-clad enclosure for a campervan, motorhome or boat that only needs one AC-in circuit. It holds a single 16 A double-pole RCBO, which protects the shore power hook-up supply on its way from the inlet to your inverter/charger. It's an ideal way to give a Victron MultiPlus proper AC-in protection when there are no other mains circuits to feed, and it needs less than half the wall space of our 2-way metal consumer unit.

What we now fit on our panel builds

MCG metal consumer units are what we now fit on our own Victron panel builds, and they are the boards you will see in our latest Instagram reels. We chose them for the steel enclosure (non-combustible, as BS 7671 Amendment 3 asks for), the pre-wired double-pole isolator, and MCG double-pole 30 mA Type A RCBOs that switch both line and neutral.

The same MCG range, sold separately: 2-way, 4-way, 6-way, 10-way, 14-way, 16 A RCBO, 10 A RCBO. Fit RCBOs largest first, next to the main switch, and use Build your board to add the board, RCBOs and blanking pieces in one go, or let our system designer pick the board from what you plug in.

Watch them on our reels

How it's wired

Shore power from the hook-up inlet lands on the top terminals of the RCBO, and the bottom terminals feed the MultiPlus AC input, so everything below the contacts is dead when the RCBO is switched off. The earth bar takes the incoming earth and the earth to the MultiPlus. There's no separate main switch: the one double-pole RCBO protects the circuit against overload, short circuit and earth leakage, and it switches both live and neutral, which matters on a hook-up supply where the polarity can't be relied on.

What goes in it

The RCBO is sold separately: for a 16 A shore power hook-up, fit our 16 A double-pole RCBO. IP20 means it must sit inside a dry cupboard or locker. If you need more than one mains circuit, choose one of our metal consumer units with a 100 A double-pole isolator instead. Mains work must be installed and tested by a competent person to BS 7671.
