Cabin solar system design
We start with your loads: lights, water pump, fridge, sockets, heating controls, maybe an induction hob. Then we check how much sun your site really gets in winter using PVGIS, the European Commission's solar data tool. That sets the solar array and battery bank so the cabin keeps going through a grey week in December.

Log cabin electrics, fitted properly
Every system is supplied and fitted by us. The board is built and tested in our Witherslack workshop, then wired into the cabin and commissioned. You get an electrical installation certificate and a walk-through of how it all works.
Got more than one cabin? We build the same system for each unit, so every one behaves the same and is easy to support.
Shepherds hut electrics and glamping pod power
Smaller footprint, same standard. An off grid shepherds hut or a glamping pod gets a Victron system sized to fit the space and the guests.
Off-grid shepherd's huts
Space is tight, so we plan where the battery, inverter and board go before anything is built. Solar usually sits on the roof or on a ground mount nearby. Guests get lights, USB and mains sockets, and a fridge that doesn't go off at 3am.
Glamping pods and cabin fleets

Are you an authorised Victron installer?
Yes. Tiny Build Electrics Ltd is an Authorised Victron Energy Installer, listed on Victron's own where-to-buy finder at our Witherslack workshop.
Can you power more than one cabin?
Yes. We build the same system for each cabin, so every one behaves the same and is easy to support.
Do you install on site?
We build and fit in our Witherslack workshop as standard. Local on-site installation is available on request, subject to a site review.
How much solar power for an off grid cabin?
It depends on what you run and when you use the cabin. A weekend cabin with lights, a fridge and phone charging needs far less than a home lived in all winter. We work out your daily use, check winter sun for your exact site with PVGIS, and size the panels and battery so you aren't left short in December. Our solar guides explain the basics.
How to power a cabin off grid: what goes in?
Solar panels feed a Victron MPPT charge controller, which charges a lithium battery bank. A Victron inverter/charger turns that into mains power for your sockets, and a consumer unit with RCD protection keeps it safe. A generator or a hook-up input can top it up when the sun's low.
How to build a log cabin off grid: where do the electrics fit?
Bring us in before the walls are closed up. We'll agree cable routes, where the board and battery live, and where solar goes, so the build team can leave space. Then the system is built in our workshop and fitted when the cabin's ready.
How do you get electricity to a shepherd's hut?
Either run a supply from the main building or make the hut self-contained with solar and a battery. For remote spots, off-grid is often simpler than digging a long cable run. We'll talk through both on the call.
How to heat an off grid cabin?
Most off grid cabins heat with a log burner, gas or a diesel heater. Electric heating eats batteries fast, so we usually power the fans, pumps and controls rather than the heat itself. We'll be straight with you about what's realistic.
Do you need a building permit for an off grid cabin?
Planning and building control are down to your local council, so check with them early. On our side, the electrics are designed and tested to BS 7671 and you get a certificate for the installation.
What does a full system cost?
Cabin systems start from £2,495 + VAT for a standard workshop week. Larger jobs are typically £2,995 + VAT. Every system is priced to your build.
